| 7 | In diesem atmosphärisch dichten Bild demonstriert der Amsterdamer Landschaftsmaler Adriaen van de Velde sein Können. Der niedrige Horizont suggeriert eine nicht enden wollende Weite der Landschaft. Von einem leicht erhöhten Standpunkt fällt der Blick auf eine Landzunge. Darauf grasen Pferde, Schafe und Kühe, deren Spiegelungen eindrucksvoll im Flusslauf wiedergegeben sind. Van de Velde stammte aus einer Familie von Marinemalern. Zuweilen führte er die Figurenmalerei und Tierstaffage in den Bildern von Kollegen aus, eine im 17. Jahrhundert übliche Form der Zusammenarbeit. Obgleich bereits im Alter von 35 Jahren verstorben, hinterließ Adriaen van de Velde ein umfangreiches Werk. Darunter befinden sich die qualitätvollsten Landschaften der niederländischen Kunst des 17.
